Dear Parents/Carers,
I’d like to welcome everyone back for term 3. Term two was such a huge agenda and the work of the P and F building community at St Paul’s was so significant. Last term we shared:
- St Paul’s School Fete - the highlight for our students;
- Grandparents and Great People Day - the second most important highlight for the our students;
- Mothers Day Stall
- School Cyclic Inquiry, where we formulated future directions for our school.
- And we had a significant financial audit of our management processes, something that happens every four years. This was highly successful and I would like to acknowledge the work of Mrs Bronwyn Roberts for being such a professional steward of this area.
The School Cyclic Inquiry has set the school up to be future focused and we have three areas that we, as a school community, will seek to place even greater focus. I will share some of this with you, but over the term I will seek to provide more detail as the planning of a new Strategic Plan for St Paul’s begins to take shape from this process.
Our three key areas of focus on our new plan will be:
- Nurturing and enriching Catholic identity.
- Improving student learning outcomes.
- Enhancing the wellbeing of staff through promoting co responsibility and the core work of teachers.
These key areas will be “unpacked” further with you in future newsletters.
When I reflect on our work from last term I actually see a school that has tried to live and journey together in a way that I would call holistic living. I see this as the ongoing maturation of a learning community that seeks to integrate the spiritual, emotional, intellectual and practical dimensions of one’s being. If we do this well as a community, we are modelling to the students all about the meaning of living a “good life”. I would define a “good life” as one that is lived with purpose that enhances the common good and the fulfilment of each individual’s potential (clearly articulated in our vision).
So how do we respond when planning for the future in moving forward with our three key areas? Across all three key areas we need to provide learning and teaching with a broad vision of how people might live in harmony. This will ensure our horizons are expanded and we creatively find ways of moving forward our new strategic plan as we respond to a constantly changing environment and world view. The speed of social change and the multiplying of knowledge at such a rapid rate means that during one lifetime a person will need to make several major shifts in consciousness and life skills. This reflects our St Paul’s vision:
With Jesus as our model;
and in the tradition of St Paul and St Mary MacKilllop,
we strive to provide an education that
challenges and encourages all to reach their full potential.
We do this in partnership with our families,
the parish and the wider community.
We are committed to our school motto of “Truth, Love, Faith”.
Go Gently,
Michael Reardon

2024 NAPLAN Results
NAPLAN results were sent home with students last Friday. Parents in year 5 are reminded to keep these results in a safe place as they will be required when applying for High School.
Attendance Notes
For any whole day absence, parents will need to access their Compass parent portal and log the absence before 11am on the day their child is not at school. If you fail to do this you will receive a Compass alert requesting that you explain your child’s absence on the day your child is away. The school must receive notification of the reason for the absence within 7 days of the return to school. In the event that an explanation is not supplied the absence will be recorded as Unjustified/Unexplained.
Partial Absences
We ask that you do not enter an attendance note if your child has a partial absence (eg; arriving late or leaving early). These will be entered by office staff when you are in the foyer to drop off or collect your children.
Leave During the School Term
When taking your child/children out of school, during term for a holiday or extended leave (3 school days or over) you are required to submit a request for leave. This can be done by emailing info@spcdow.catholic.edu.au
School Fees
School fee statements will be emailed to all parents/carers this Thursday, 1 August 2024. You may also view your school fee account in the Compass Parent Portal.
Families not paying by instalment plan, your 2024 school fees were due on Thursday, 28 February 2024. If you are yet to pay your school fees in full you will be contacted by the school shortly and an appointment will be made for you to come and discuss the non-payment of your school fees with Mr Reardon. Families currently paying school fees by instalment, providing your instalments are up to date you will not be contacted.
For families currently experiencing financial difficulty, please do not ignore your school fee statement, please contact the school immediately and request a 'Fee Concession Form'. Once the form is completed and returned to the school, an appointment will be made for you with Mr Reardon so you can discuss your current situation. Mr Reardon will put a mutually agreed payment plan in place to assist you with paying your school fees and prevent you falling further behind and your school fee account being forwarded to the CEDoW School Fee Liasion Office for debt collection.

Fortnightly Target For PB4L
At St Paul’s I apologise when I have made a poor choice
Just about everyone has said or done something that hurts another person’s feelings. Sometimes you might hurt someone without meaning to. Or you say or do something unkind and regret it later.
When you realise you’ve broken someone’s trust in you or hurt them with your words or actions, it’s a good idea to apologise.
It can be hard to admit when you’ve done something you’re not proud of — even if you didn’t mean to do it.
Apologies can help you build and keep good friendships. When you say, "I'm sorry" (and really mean it), you can repair trust. Saying you're sorry is more than just words. You're showing that you respect the other person’s feelings. You value their friendship.
Apologising is a chance for you to be honest, humble, and act with integrity. It lets you find out that your words and actions can also have a positive effect on others — and on you.
Students will be learning about this target and discussing what it means and what we can do when we need to apologise. Below are how parents, students and teachers can work together to ensure this target is met.

NAIDOC Week 2024
To celebrate NAIDOC week the St Paul’s school community welcomed Mr Troy Allen and his performance - 'Wadjiny" on Tuesday, 23 July 2024.
Troy combined dance, storytelling and music in his performance and had students and teachers join him in the dance as they all mimicked the kangaroo, emu and other Australian animals using their newly learnt movements that stretch back thousands of years.
He also had a fine collection of artefacts, weapons, tools, nets and other everyday items which were used to fully engage and educate the students.
A constant throughout his stories was the theme of great respect for land and all creatures that inhabit it.
The performance ended with Troy creating fire in his hand with the help of some of the male staff members.
