Year 5 iPad

We have been informed by the Catholic Education Office (CEO) that our Year 5 student iPads will be delivered later this week. This is ahead of  schedule and I sincerely thank the support of the CEO for assisting with configuring all devices on to the School Managed iPad System. Thank you parents and carers for your patience during this time.

Year 5 Are Becoming Digitally Intelligent - eSmart Digital Licence+

Digital technology mediates and augments almost every aspect of a young person’s life, even more so since the prevalence of COVID-19. It is crucial that young people develop social and emotional competencies, along with technical knowledge and skills that enable them to harness the opportunities and deal with the challenges of the digital world.

Beyond IQ and EQ, DQ (Digital Intelligence) represents a comprehensive set of skills needed for young people to thrive in the digital age. The DQ framework developed by the DQ Institute is the global standard related to digital literacy, digital skills, and digital readiness.

More than technical know-how, digital intelligence enables young people to use technology in a safe, balanced and healthy way through active self-regulation and self-awareness, and encourages them to communicate and collaborate online with respect, kindness and empathy.

For these reasons, Year 5 students complete their eSmart Digital Licence at the beginning of the school year. With guidance from their classroom teachers, students have started working through the following four topics.

Topic 1: Self Regulation in Technology

Traversing the Tightrope of Technology: Students understand the importance of balancing their technology use with other things in their life and know how to achieve balance through cognitive self-regulation and the application of strategies.

Topic 2: Kindness Counters Harmful Behaviours

Students understand the many types of cyber risks (eg. cyberbullying) and how kindness can be practiced to help create a positive and supportive online community. Students know the strategies to deal with cyber risks as they encounter them, and know how to behave  to help others.

Topic 3: Vigilance Against Cyber Threats

Building your Shield: Students understand the attributes or ‘red flags’ of a cyber threat (particularly phishing scams), and know the strategies to identify, deal with, report and remain vigilant to cyber threats.

Topic 4: Empathy in Online Interactions

Having a Digital Heart: Students understand what empathy is and why it is important. Students learn about the challenge of online disinhibition and the strategies to demonstrate empathy online.

Stage 3 Student Cyber Safety Presentation

Unfortunately, due to the current COVID restrictions we have to postpone the Stage 3 Student Cyber Safety Presentation presented by Camden Police Area Command. We hope to reschedule later this year.
