School Managed iPad Program

Moving Forward in 2022 …

As you are aware St Paul’s have been running the 1:1 iPad initiative for a number of years. Each year the school has recommended that parents purchase an iPad for use in Year 5 and Year 6. This has been called BYOD or Bring Your Our Device. As you would be aware, Technology is constantly changing and there are many pros and cons to BYOD. For these reasons, St Paul’s is moving to a School Managed iPad Program for our Year 5, 2022 cohort.

St Paul’s takes the responsibility of teaching students to be responsible and respectful users of technology seriously. This program helps us better manage the technology in order to support the educational benefits of the iPad. The first interaction with an iPad for many children is that they see it as a gaming device. This program focuses on changing the students' thinking from a gaming device to an educational tool. We would like to inform parents about the benefits of this program.

School Managed iPads vs BYOD

School Managed iPad

BYOD

Cost

Cheaper price (School purchase price) with 2 years interest free payments with your school fees. School price includes the iPad, a cover and Applecare.

Choose where to buy paying retail prices.

Screen Time

Aimed at preventing iPad addiction and improving child health. Apps are not available between 9pm and 7am (for example) each night. No arguments with children about extending screen time.

Choose how often and how long children can use iPads. Can configure Screen Time as desired.

Accounts

All children accounts managed and configured by the school. No creation or password issues which can cause undue stress.

Parents create Apple IDs for their child and manage their passwords and privileges. Parent AppleIDs must not be used on the child’s iPad, otherwise parent messages, notifications and content appears on the child’s iPad while at school.

Apps

All Apps remotely installed by the school. No Apple ID required. No inApp purchases. Parents can request Apps that they need individually installed onto the iPad.

Parents can install any apps and are responsible for any costs incurred. Need to ensure the necessary apps for schoolwork are installed, Remember AppleID password.

Social Media

No social media apps on the iPad. Children don’t meet minimum social media age requirements.

Parents monitor and control social media. Ensure their child is not involved in peer group cyber bullying through social media.

Content Filtering

iPad websites filtered. Remote blocking and enabling additional sites.

Parents decide whether to set up filtering on iPads and monitor and adjust if necessary.

iCloud

Free school managed educational 200GB iCloud account for every student.

iCloud account with parent managed AppleID has 5GB storage. Then you are required to pay a monthly fee to increase your iCloud account.

Locked and Disabled iPad

The school can remotely unlock a locked iPad. School can erase and rebuild Disabled iPad with little-to-no files lost.

Locked and disabled iPads will need to be restored, support may be required. Lost content is dependent upon settings and setup.

The School Managed iPad Program is sincerely designed to help families and foster the development and learning of the school’s children. At the completion of Year 6, if all iPad payments have been received, the iPad will be restored to factory settings and students can take it home for further use.

Attention: Year 3 Parents

Please be aware the 2023 Year 5 Cohort will be required to purchase their child’s iPad through the School Managed iPad Program. Your child will receive their device during Term 1, 2023.
