At St Paul’s I will wait for my turn to speak

Our target for this fortnight is At St Paul’s I will wait for my turn to speak. The students have been learning that there are times when they need to be patient and wait for their turn to speak, and that they must make a choice of when it’s an appropriate time to speak. Below are some things that staff, students and parents can do together to ensure this goal is met.

Look at the person and wait respectfully Say “excuse me …” Wait for a response Explain their concern statement (Excuse me, can you help me solve this problem….) State their problem specifically (steps that have already been taken to solve this problem, how it makes them feel) Say “Thank you”	Model the expected the behaviour Remind students of the expectations. Teach children when to wait for their turn to speak, and when it is appropriate to interrupt.	Discuss the expectations with their children. Have an age-appropriate conversation with children about waiting their turn to speak Practise waiting your turn to speak.
