Trial Procedure for Parents of Children with Separation Issues
To assist parents of children experiencing separation issues of a morning, school has implemented a trial procedure commencing Wednesday, 23 August 2023 until the conclusion of Term 3.
When a child is experiencing a separation issue on the playground in the morning, parents wil be required to take their child for a walk around the block to settle the child and to then enter the school via the parent foyer on Mitchell Street. If your child has settled, they may go to the playground or go to class if class has commenced. If your child has not settled, please ask the staff member on reception for access to the conference room, where you and your child can sit in privacy.
Once Mr Reardon and Mrs Brunetta have finished with their morning duty on the playground one or both of them will come to assist you in the conference room. If there is more than one child needing assistance in the morning the other parents will be offered an alternative space.
It is hoped this procedure will help the child to feel more settled and happier to enter school for the day and alleviate the need for staff becoming involved and removing children from the parents in the playground. Expecting staff to remove upset children from their parents is no longer considered safe work practice for our staff.
The school understands that separation issues cause stress for both parent and child. For this reason, it is hoped this trial procedure makes a difference and if so, it will be implemented on a permanent basis.
