From the Principal's Desk

Dear Parents/Carers,

I was so excited to write the newsletter this week, as I know all in the community were thrilled to see our fete back, bigger and better than ever! The excitement is still continuing as today is Tattoo Tuesday and the students have been wearing their short sleeve shirts to show off their tattoos from the tattoo stand.  Now for the best story of all:

Mrs Mangiapane took a phone call yesterday morning from a member of the community who wanted to give her thanks to our school for delivering such an amazing fete.

She was so thankful and asked to pass on her thanks to all involved. She lives in Camden but has no affiliation with our school. Along with her friend, they had attended Cobbitty Markets on Saturday morning but had found that many of the stalls had disappeared and it didn’t have the same feel pre COVID.

They remembered the St Paul’s fete was on so popped in and said she was compelled to phone and offer thanks. She said it was the best fete she had ever attended and she also said that the children were so happy everywhere she looked. She made a special note of the “vibe and feel” of the day and it was such a beautiful and happy place. She particularly loved the bake stall and said it took her straight back to her childhood and she also commented on how amazing the fruit and veg stall was.

The phone call finished with her saying that she could not thank the school enough.  Mrs Mangiapane said that it was probably the best phone call she had ever taken.

After being told about this phone call I began to think about how it had confirmed our christian story. Gospel values are reference markers to gauge the culture of our school. The Good News of hope and love echoes through our school with such special events as our fete. Catholic schools should be hopeful places because Easter is the ultimate triumph of the human spirit through Christ. In my work at St Paul’s, I often experience this spirit of hope and care. Last Saturday it was everywhere!

Thank you to the fete committee. The work behind the scenes, mostly after hours, cannot be compared to any words used to describe it. Thank you to the stall holders and stall teams for making each stall an individual experience of the community. Thank you to the parents who came along and participated. Thank you to the children who came to the tattoo stall, we were the best!

Oh, by the way, the profit for the fete and the P and F raffle combined, was $85,000. As you can see from this story, that is not what is important to me!

Go gently,

Michael Reardon
